@lassepeterson2740 Urban depopulation was a post WW2 policy in the US in order to stop racial conflict and reduce taxation. The side effect of this was the need for the interstate and high capacity local highways which pushed rail further towards unprofitability. Long distance rail was already dying by 1946, but interstates sealed the final fate. There is no hope of putting US cities back together again, so rail is perceived as nothing but welfare.

@SomePotato Most Americans have never encountered a pickpocket, so the mere perception that train stations like bus terminals are for criminals is more than enough to make them not use it. If you don’t believe this, go visit a greyhound station somewhere.

@SomePotato I understand what you mean by perception as being a problem, but there is no will nor enough sentiment present to an actually attempt to address the issue. Americans by and large have given up on trying to fix the problems. Decades of money thrown and endless promises has achieved nothing.
