The national budgets of most EU member states are so top loaded with social spending and entitlement programs that a huge expenditure on a military with a a defensive posture is not a realistic option. No EU leader is going to want to try to explain to the population that they cannot have their medical care or retirement plan simply because “the Americans walked off the job and now we have to pick up the slack.” This is not sustainable, and any movement by Russia will clarify it.

  2.  Kristie Wang  The weapons are overpriced. However, you also need people to fire them, which you do not have at the present.
