@asrafoo The Aztecs, Mayas, Incas and other peoples of central and south America did indeed have functioning governments and capital cities, but outside of those areas there was a lack of governing beyond the clan or tribal level. There is a cruel irony in the fact that the first nation to fall was the most powerful one, the Aztecs. Apart from them, the rest of the native tribes never really stood a chance when it came to transoceanic contact. No centralized governments, no standing armies, no incentive to progress technologically. You have to wonder what the world would be like today if the Aztec civilization had arisen just a few hundred years earlier than when it did.

The Futurist A few did. But far more of them either went extinct due to disease or brokered deals with the colonists to their own gain. In a historical sense, it can be said that the native Americans were screwed from the time of Mohammed onwards. Someone, from somewhere else was going to travel to the Americas and try to conquer it inevitably. It was just blind luck that it was the Europeans first.

The Futurist The native Americans did fight on occasion against settlement, but the concept that they raised massive armies to repel with is just fantasy. It was always spurious efforts, not organized.
