I believe it is the proximity to the Arab realm that caused the concern. Much like Italians from the north of Italy were never scrutinized by US customs but Sicilianos got the bums rush. Sicily was too close to Africa in the minds of northern Europeans.

@lolacole5653 African, yeah. Sub-Saharan.......meh. Arabic, yes. Berber, yes. They belong to the north of the four Africas, which historically has a stronger link to Europe than Sub-Saharan Africa.

@AK99581 I thought Poland was considered Eastern European, not Northern. Poles who I have spoken with in the past described themselves as Slavic before European, but maybe it is just a linguistic quirk.

@brenkelly8163 A frequent occurrence for many white people is that when they take a DNA ethnicity test, south and central Asian will crop up in a small percentile. This is not accidental or statistical noise, it is a living vestige of the times when whites resided in places like Armenia and Afghanistan.

@AnXX94 There is also the weight of history. Armenia has been invaded repeatedly in the historical record, which means that the inhabitants today are not quite the same ethnically as their predecessors.

@shingotakekuma5138 I fixate on culture more than appearance. If I like someones culture, I like them. If I don't admire their culture, I just avoid them.

The irony here is that nearly all White individuals alive today are of ancient Armenian descent, via medieval ancestry in Bulgaria and Moldova. The only Europeans/Americans who can be excluded from this are the Sami in northern Scandinavia, but everyone else - Germans, English, Spanish, Italians, etc...ancient Armenian and more descent from antiquity.

The color is merely a symbol. In nature, aposematism is the way by which species survive aggression by displaying warning colors/symbols or attract mates in a similar way. Humans have the same system in that "the color carries the history". When we see someone of a particular appearance, we go to our friend or foe analysis, then our fight or flight response. Skin color plays a role, but it is far from alone. Hair type, facial structure, body plan all work together to determine how you will behave when confronted with someone who is different from what you know. Consciously, you do not feel this but subconsciously it is running your show. In the end, we are all racists because we all want to survive and thrive.
