Israelis inculcated by this well-burnished narrative cannot accept any divergent accoung. They truly view tjemselves and other Israelis as a just and unfailingly fair and compassionate people whom no one could legitimately question on moral grounds. And now that this fantasy has been laid bare as such, cognitive dissonance prevents Israelis nurtured in this mythology from relinquishing that fantasy.

This week (2nd week of July) the Guardian reported upon a particlarly monstrous tactic used by Israeli troops: Israel manufactures artillery shells that have an outer sleeve filled with a massive amount of small, precisely shaped pieces of shrapnel (a far more refined version of a crude terrorist bomb containing nails and ball bearings packed around the explosive charge). When the Israeli shells land amidst civilians the blast furiously propels the identical mini pieces of shrapnel at speeds that easily pierce skin and leave but a small pinprick entry mark. These projectiles are quite damaging to adult bodies, but exponentially worse when they pierce children's bodies and shatter small bones and sever arteries as thin as noodles...How is this not justification for an immediate halt of support--verbal and financial--for Israel's ongoing genocide? Why has this not sparked widespread condemnation and thorough denunciation of the Netanyahu regime and the IDF?

  13. I find the aspect of American congressman Dan Goldman calling for the dismantling of pro-Palestinian encampments on the Columbia University campus quite sad. While such a call from the devotedly performative Representative Jared Moskowitz failed to surprise me, Goldman's call truly disappointed me. Free speech, civil protest and free inquiry within America's colleges and universities should not be the targets of attacks by elected representatives in a democratic republic. American should expect better of their elected officials, and congresspeople in a democratic republic should never urge uniformed thugs to quash free speech and protest.

Biden bought into the Israeli narrative and propaganda from the start and has been little moved by harrowing accounts that solidly refute Israel's campaign of terrible lies. I believe that the stain from Biden's failure to curb Israel's genocidal march will dim his legacy when future historians assess his presidency.

People such as Tom Cotton, who has advocated vigilante violence against protesters, and Jim Jordan, who has endorsed the deportation of pro-Palestinian protesters who are in the states on visas, are exploiting--indeed, weaponizing--antisemitism to crush free speech and further anti-Muslim and anti-Arab agendas.
