Maybe the people that just want to own a house for the simple fact of owning a house and it not going to good use then they should go own a house in a country or place that doesn't have a housing crisis?? Seems to me the ghost houses aren't in the countryside where there isn't high demand for houses but instead more likely in highly populated and sort after metropolitan areas..

  2. ​​ @whatthe6532 nobody is asking for policies like that? And I don't see anywhere in NZ that there is a shoe crisis or a car crisis. But there certainly is a housing crisis. But very good analogy, boomer 😂

  3. ​​ @zweed69 60k a year isn't minimum wage boomer. 47k would be minimum wage with a 40 hour week.. Then minus tax and ACC... We all know you brought houses back in the 80's and 90's for two strawberries and a couple gold coins your parents gave you but that simply isn't the case for the younger generation born from 1885 onwards. How will they ever get into the housing market unless their rich parents help them in? Why should you not pay higher tax on your second house if it sits there empty 45 weeks of the year. If you can afford to own it then you can afford to pay additional tax for it, if not sell it so somebody can actually live in it rather than it just being the holiday escape house for a few weeks.

  6. Just bring in capital gains tax already.. we don't need the rich or foreign investors making more money off the housing market in a housing crisis! How can politicians say there is a housing crisis while meanwhile allowing houses to sit empty for years and then be sold for a huge profit without paying any capital gains tax. Makes no sense at all!
