I have opened bank accounts in both Estonia and Russia and what may surprise most people is that my experience opening a bank account in Russia was more positive then in Estonia for many reasons. The staff were friendlier in Russia and I will also say quite beautiful, lower fees for foreign people at certain banks, such as Sberbank or Raffeissen, and a modern technologically based banking system that is actually ahead of many American banks in terms of innovation.

@amir5593 Yes there are a few banks that open accounts if you have a proof of long-term stay (e.g. apartment rental lease document). For example: Sberbank very quick and easy and Raffeisen Bank which takes longer but is very customer friendly and makes it easy for a foreign person to build credit if they have a residence document. Keep in mind there are certain banks that will not open accounts for people unless they have residence documents, as was the case with my ex-girlfriend who worked for a Russian bank that would not open accounts without a residence document.

@ginmador9824 Yes, makes sense. I have not been to Belarus but know they share many similarities with Russia based on what people have told me.
