To stop their citizens from fleeing to the West, the Eastern Bloc countries erected various forms of barriers and walls using barbed wire, ditches and concrete walls. The separations were controlled through alarms, watchtowers, mines, guard dogs and soldiers who would shoot to kill. Such happy times....
