The name reflects the British influence and standardization of measurements across their colonies and territories. The system was used throughout their empire, reinforcing British control and consistency in trade, engineering, and governance. Even the British went metric, and Myanmar and Liberia (the last countries alongside the USA not have gone metric) have been moving towards metrication in recent years, leaving the United States as the only country still widely using the imperial British system.
