Amazing how the dates of the first arrivals keeps getting moved back. I can remember when the dates were only 5,000 years ago. New tech and dna have revolutionized things. Love it!

Interesting as my mother's family were Yuchi/ Creek originally from SC that intermarried with Scots- Irish settlers and fought for the Revolution and moved down to Ga. after. There are mounds in north Ga too.

@doncook2054 Simplistic views of history aren't history but propaganda. Name one civilization that did not do things in retrospect that were not regretable. Unlike what some teach we have sought to address our past mistakes. Of course ignorant people deny this but those dead lying at Gettysburg give the lie to that. Grow up honey. My ancestors include Native Americans and trust me know ones hands are clean.

Used to have family reunions near the park at Cohokia, Ill. and visited the mounds. Visit if you get the chance. Amazing construction.

Actually I was taught about it and I'm 72. Lol! Why do modern historians assume they are the only ones who teach ethnically diverse history?

They were fully modern homo sapiens intellectually.

@zaq_hack4987 There is some indication Polynesians reached S.America. They were master sailors. As a child I was fascinated with emigration to the Americas and felt the theories did not add up. The empires built in Central and South America on top of previous civilizations could not have occured in a mere 5,000 years as was the time frame back then. My love of prehistory and history began with a trip to Mammoth Cave at age eight. Lol!

@doncook2054 It's because the mound building culture also was found in the deep south too. There are mounds in Georgia, the Carolinas and Alabama.

There are indications that trade goods were found from hundreds of miles away so it's not impossible that ideas and religious emblems did too. For sure there's cross cultural influences from groups in Mexico and the Southwestern Native People.

Never met anyone in Illinois that did not know it was there.

Florida's native empire. Impressive.

I love the Mohave desert of Arizona. It is full of diverse plants and critters. But you can't see it by rapidly going down HWY 40. It is as beautiful as the " Marshes of Glynn" in my beloved Georgia, and the Keys of Florida.

We lost a lot of references with the loss of those cultures. And recent discoveries are giving us new insights. FYI, the Eastern Woodland culture was not just hunter gatherers. New evidence shows they domesticated turkey and deer. And before even the corn growing culture was introduced to them from the south they were planting seed bearing plants, etc.

The use of boats of some kind is now even believed to have been used by our predecessors,eg Neanderthals.

But with brains. Trust me. I've lived in many states and Florida is far ahead of any blue state. Lol!
