Wow! Why'd they not put a disclaimer on it? It explains a lot. Most sufferers don't show symptoms til the teens or early 20's.

I think it begins much later in most cases. Like the late teens or early 20's. And percipitated by a stressful event or situation.

That is a recurring problem with patients. They stop their medications. A friend had a roommate in college. A very sweet loving girl who's boyfriend convinced her she did not need meds but God. He was well meaning but foolish. My friend woke up one night with her roommate talking in the voice of a little girl and making a fire in the middle of their dorm room! Thank goodness she woke up or we'd all been burned up! She spent a month at home having her meds restored and came back and was perfectly fine. It's very sad when they don't take their medication. But you do what you can. You aren't superman.

Insurance companies cost us more by their dumb rules. I had to wait seven years before getting cataract surgery because mine were due to being a preemie not old age. Blue Cross and Blue Shield's delay caused me to have more extensive surgery due to adhesions.

It's an illness like bipolar disorder than does run in families and some people are high functioning and can lead normal lives with medications while others need care or supervision. Both these disorders can occur in families at the same time among different generations and are sadly usually with high IQs and very creative people. I've seen it in one branch of my Dad's family. Thankfully we escaped it but it's occuring even down to great great grandchildren where one or two in each generation will have either bipolar or the other. Very sad to see in a child of five and so severely.

Children have such active fantasy lives it's a wonder how they'd tell at that young an age.

@shelleymurphy1966 Thank goodness both my cousins are smart enough to take theirs and head for their doctor when they feel problems reasserting themselves. Both are high functioming very well educated professionals. I credit their parents for guiding them in it.
