You need to consider what the cost of a room in a hotel x 2 would set you back, 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts, cocktails and/or beers x 8, unlimited movies and music, personal service, the cost of fuel to reach your destination and the cost returning home. Pre covid a return ticket would have set you back £400 which is only £200 each way. Taking into account all the above £200 for a 13 hour journey was an absolute bargain. £1200 (£600) each way which it currently is still represents very good value for money. Drive your car from London to Edinburgh and back staying in a decent hotel for two nights, include ALL the above add ons (plus your fuel) and you will not get much change from £600. For an extra £600 you could be lying in a hammock under a coconut palm, sipping a singha premium beer whilst watching Thai beauties frolicking amongst the waves in their bikinis.
