  2. Your mortgage has gone up because you no doubt took a fixed rate mortgage when interest rates were at their lowest for the past 300 years. If you had done your due diligence and checked the historic interest rate record you would have known this. Taking a mortgage out expecting it to remain at historic lows was an error on your part and has nothing to do with government finances. Even a mortgage application has a warning "interest rates can rise".

  29. AS it will be NATO forces and not Ukrainian forces guiding missiles to their targets inside Russia proper I can see why Russia may respond in kind. The West is playing a very dangerous game with a nuclear power. Just because Putin has shown weakness in the past by not responding when his 'red lines' were crossed does not mean he won't do so now.
