  1. I fired myself at aged 48 when my son reached 18. Working for an employer for 31 years was enough for me. I am now 72 and though not wealthy I have had 24 years of freedom to make my own decisions in life. My freedom is worth more than materialism. I have zero regrets.

  2. Thanks to Brexit many of us cannot move to the EU full time as after 90 days one has to leave the EU and go somewhere else. A good plan in my view is to buy a small parcel of land with a borehole and some fruit trees for around 10,000 euros somewhere in Central Portugal and for 90 days live on your own land in a tent or yurt. After 90 days head to somewhere like Malaysia or Thailand for 90 days. Rent and local food is cheap there. After 90 days in Asia return to your land in Portugal for another 90 days. All legal and above board. Rinse and then repeat.

  3. My wife and I have worked our butts off for the past 40 years and have finally managed to become debt free. Our two properties go up for sale early next year and all our accumulated materialistic crap will go to the charity shops. My wife and I are heading for Malaysia to retire and the only way we will be coming back is in our coffins.

  8. homeowners should not have been so foolish to take out large mortgages for overpriced property knowing interest rates are some of the lowest in recorded history. Any muppet would know interest rates would one day go back up to the average rate which is 7%. No good blaming others for being stupid.

  12. I have just moved house and 95% of the "stuff" I have accumulated over the past 40 years is just that "stuff' ie. valueless junk. Living in a van with the minimum for survival should be taught to all of us. Only then people may realise it is the small things in life which make us truly happy not the quantity.

  26. What are you worried about?? Here in the UK National debt has passed THREE TRILLION. The difference is, Australia has resources which it can trade unlike the UK.
