A great many of the northern Italians were French, including the Savoy ruling class.

There are all sorts of factors involved with DNA results that are not explained by the companies who do them. My example: I know exactly who all my ancestors were through 8 generations on all sides, because I have done extensive tracing through church records and village books. My ancestors originally lived in Belgium/Luxembourg, then migrated to Hungary for 200 years, then migrated to America. But my DNA also says I am Irish/British. Why? Because the original Celtic tribes were inhabitants of the Danube basin in Hungary before they migrated west and ended up in the British Isles. So my DNA matches the DNA of lots of people who live in England and Ireland with Celtic ancestors. The Eastern and Western European DNA in my profile they got correct.
