The Russian military has thwarted a Ukrainian effort to continue their offensive in Kursk Region, the country’s Defense Ministry said on Friday.
Combat in the area intensified on Thursday, when the Ukrainian military mounted a major attack to the northeast of the town of Sudzha, the largest settlement controlled by Kiev in the area. The attack involved dozens of armored vehicles and hundreds of troops.
A new video released by the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday shows one of the Ukrainian convoys, which appeared to largely consist of Western-supplied armored cars, come under artillery fire. The convoy deployed a smokescreen and attempted to hide in a wooded area, yet multiple vehicles were struck, the footage shows.
Ukrainian troops advanced in the open in large convoys, led by minesweeping and breacher vehicles. They were promptly detected and subjected to artillery and air strikes, and were also targeted by a multitude of assorted drones.
According to the latest estimates by the Russian military, the Ukraine lost over 200 servicemen during the unsuccessful attack on Ulanok and Cherkasskya Konopelka. At least eight tanks, five infantry fighting vehicles and over 30 other pieces of armor were destroyed. The attacking forces also lost three engineering breacher vehicles, a bridgelayer and other support equipment. - RT

Russia will not accept a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine, since it will only be used by the collective West to reinforce Kiev until hostilities can break out again, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.
Moscow is seeking only a lasting solution which will put an end to the ongoing crisis, Zakharova relayed on Thursday during a regular press briefing.
“A temporary ceasefire or, as many say, freezing the conflict, is unacceptable,” she stressed. “We need reliable, legally binding agreements and mechanisms that would guarantee that the crisis will not recur.”
Zakharova warned that a simple pause in the fighting “will be used by the West – the collective West as a whole or its individual representatives – to strengthen the military potential of the Kiev regime and, of course, to attempt an armed revanche,” she warned.
Moscow has opposed a temporary ceasefire, citing past experiences and arguing it would only allow Ukraine to prepare for further conflict. - RT

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the liberation of the Donbass town of Dzerzhinsk on Friday. The location has seen active fighting in recent months, becoming the scene of an intense urban battle as Ukrainian troops mounted counterattacks in an effort to retrieve lost positions.
Dzerzhinsk had served as the key staging area for Ukraine to launch artillery, missile, and drone strikes on Gorlovka on an almost daily basis.
The mine and its environs came under Russian control earlier this week, with the development apparently accelerating the full liberation of Dzerzhinsk.
Earlier on Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the liberation of Druzhba and Krymskoye, two small villages to the northeast of Dzerzhinsk. The development apparently signals the retreat of the remnants of the Ukrainian forces stationed in the area, likely towards Konstantinovka, a major town around 12km to the northwest of Dzerzhinsk.
The town was liberated by Russia’s ‘Center’ grouping of troops, which has seen the most intense combat over the past week. According to the Russian Defense Ministry’s weekly media briefing, over the past seven days the troop grouping alone has killed or wounded over 3,700 Ukrainian servicemen. It has also reportedly destroyed four tanks, including a German-supplied Leopard, as well as 29 other armored vehicles. - RT
