The differences between straight democracy and a republican form of government are pretty profound. Maybe you don't understand that
9
@emiranup In fairness to Islam it's only been that way for 1400 years.....
6
@f-allen actually the founding fathers chose the Roman system over the Greek system because the Roman Republic lasted hundreds of years wow the more direct form of democracy practice by the Greeks generally crashed and burned in a very brief period of time
5
@survivaloptions4999 yes just ignore reality in the very real differences between democracy and Republican government.
3
@Patric-y1g it was a huge mistake to change the way that senators are selected by having it done by state legislators it gave individual states far more power on the national stage as was intended by the founders.
3
@chadmiller1120 he won't
3
@diamondjim7560 stop reading 3/4 of the way through when you told me that the majority wins which is not how our system. The presidential election is not based on popular vote and there are many counter majoritarian features to our constitutional republic. For example it doesn't matter how many people vote that I should not be able to read a particular book they don't get to decide that for me. You're beating a dead horse while being wrong
1
@seawolff33 that's odd because I've never heard anybody describe the democracies of Greece as Republics
1
@kenneth69 wow it's funny to hear you lecturing people when you don't understand the topic apparently. But I'm sure you're a good one quarter as educated as I am
1
@TuhljinTampergauge there are a number of people on here pretending to be smart who are beating a dead horse regarding ignoring the difference between the two. Where do people like this come from
1
@caseyshearer9519 no one's making you look ignorant other than yourself
1
@diamondjim7560 I'm sorry I know more about this stuff than you do of course I'm not denying that we have elections and then in some cases majority rules but being a republic majority does not rule all of the time and the majority never rules directly it's always reflected through Representatives (yes I know that there are referendums and ballot initiatives that are simple majority rule but even there they are constrained by severe limits on majority rule your neighbors no matter how many the vote Yes can't stop you from reading a particular book for example) You're beating a dead horse for no reason at all

@caseyshearer9519 fools often laugh for no reason

@diamondjim7560 long post full of information that I've known for 45 years. And of course I know more than you do. Unless of course you have been a intellectually gifted knowledge junkie since you're 8 years old and hold an undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology, a masters in chemistry, a finance oriented MBA, are a health insurance actuary, corporate strategist, professional manager and read about 1,500 books approximately a thousand of them nonfiction history, watched hundreds and hundreds of good documentaries (not the crap documentaries that are all over cable now to feed the 24/7 "documentary" channels). At work I was known as The answer Man and I have friends who call me because they say I'm better than Google. You're not in my league

@diamondjim7560 long post full of information I've known for 50 years. Of course I know more than you unless, of course, you have been an intellectually gifted knowledge freak since you were 8 years old and spent the last 58 years acquiring knowledge. Unless you too have an undergraduate degree chemistry / biology, a masters in chemistry, a finance oriented MBA, are are a health insurance actuary, a corporate strategist, professional manager and have read about 1,500 books approximately 1,000 of them non-fiction history and watched hundreds and hundreds of documentaries (the real kind not the stuff masquerading as documentaries that's all over television today). In my last gig I had responsibility for the Actuarial analytics and strategy for 6 billion dollars of health property and casualty spending for one of the world's largest corporations. My nickname at work was the answer man and I have friends who call me because they say I'm better than Google. You're not in my league.
