I have multiple degrees, im a health insurance actuary, a corporate strategist, builder and leader of elite teams and departments full of scary smart analytical people and I'm extremely well read. By the way I'm an older guy which means, something young people don't seem to undersand, that I'm a former young person. Post my friends in college had very little idea about what was going on politically that's not anything new. That's why even though it meant that I could vote at a younger age I did not believe that lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 what's a good idea. Most 19 year olds are barely confident to warm up Franks and beans and you're expecting them to be conversant in political issues

If you look at any 20 year period there are periods of of profits and losses that average out to about 3 or 4 percent. You don't understand how insurance works and you also don't understand that it's one of the least profitable industries in the country. These are not opinions these are facts I don't post on this issue to debate people I post to inform because I'm A Stone Cold expert and you are not

You can't look at the number of dollars earned by a company you have to look at what percent that profit represents. A tiny company making a million dollars might have a 30% profit margin while a big company with profits in the billions might be making only 3%. Healthcare involves predicting the future when you make rates with the rates you are making going into effect in about 6 months and ending in about 18. Sometimes you get it right and make the profit margin you're aiming for sometimes you do better by happenstance and sometimes you actually do much worse. Over any 20-year period the profit margin for health insurance companies is 3 or 4%. Drug companies on the other hand make more like 22%. The last time I looked and it's been a little while and out of 100 industrial classifications health insurance was number 86 in profitability. When people used to complain to me about the cost of insurance I would ask them where do you think the money goes and then offered to take them across the street and show him where my highly skilled and educated employees park and show them their cars and then drive them across town and show them the cars of the teenage children of the doctors and then I would ask him so where do you think the money goes? People that don't understand numbers and what they mean should not play with them

I was lucky I was able to change jobs in my middle 50s but I had a particular set of skills that were in demand

  70.  @msk3905  I too was able to land a very good big job in my mid fifties but I was in management and a hiring manager for many many years and your friends and my experience are not typical of what I saw. Way too many employees in their 50s who were let go never achieved another position as good as the one they left. The company I worked for for a long time had let themselves get very bloated, not my area (which is 100% Senior Management s fault) and had 10 consecutive years of layoffs, 2 rounds one year. For the first 5 years it was the obvious Deadwood that should have been let go before but then it began to be people who were pretty good to very good but for various reasons had become someone they could live without. The worst thing was at this time I had an Actuarial team working for me and had the budget department as well and I would see the names in advance. Some of them people that I had worked with for over 20 years and of course I couldn't tell them. Man I hated that. Also among my friends outside of work there were some who fell into the same situation after 50. It's easier to replace a good job after 50 if you're at a higher level however

I retaind my employees for about twice the corporate average and had employees who left went someplace else and came back to work for me again. By the way they liked me knowing it all because it really helped them grow develop and get their jobs done. I was regarded as a guru not a problem by my staff some are still friends even though I now live 100 mi away from where I worked. I also was a genius at hiring and the envy of the corporation in terms of selection of staff and you would not have made it through the first screening. Lots of really smart people aren't smart enough to work for me. If you accidentally slipped through and got an interview with me I'd pick up under a crappy attitude right away.

  72.  @irkenempire2849  There is a very low chance that your resume would show you to be a smart enough person for me to want to interview (lots of really really smart people we're not smart enough to work for me). If you did manage to get an interview I would have got a whiff of your bad attitude in the first 60 seconds. By the way as for my employees having a problem with me my employees stayed with me twice as long as the corporate average and several left went someplace else for a while and came back to work for me again. Manny went on to bigger roles that I groomed them for and they all developed about twice as fast as most of the people working for others I'm still in touch with a number of them and one is one of my three or four closest friends in the world. You're ridiculous

  73.  @irkenempire2849  I doubt that not one can hold a candle to me I've known a lot of other really smart people (at this point I live in a big house with two other guys and I'm not even the smartest guy in my house but in my defense my roommate Rick is a certified genius and a major scientist). Yes I am from the United States and now I am retired. I would imagine that things are vastly different where You are. No need for us to argue about anything.

By the way I was a corporate management professional. Among multiple other duties and responsibility for the corporate budget for a significant corporation. During unfortunately many periods of layoffs I saw who got picked and who didn't knowing many of them by name. In my next gig, at the end of my career my position gave me access to the demographics of a workforce of just over 1 million people. I know what I'm talking about.
