When French Republican etc politicians do that, I don't think they are doing it because they respect the queen or the he King, as great Almighty Lords, I think it is in the same way as you would a bus driver, or a security guard, and unless you are one of those sometimes quite witty irreverent individuals, then that is just the way most people behave. The second that person is not a security guard or a bus driver and they're in the queue and ASDA, you would treat them the same way you would treat anybody else. No there may be a little bit of fawning in other situations as well, even socially, but I think it is not like they see them as some kind of awesome respect, I think it is more that they are honouring the position in the same way you would honour any other position, and you behaving the traditions that you would, in that you would pay the bus driver, and say please and thanks, maybe even bye, but say in ASDA you may just not realise this customer was even the bus driver, and treat them just like you would treat everybody else. Although probably there's a bit of oh my gosh, look at the super famous person as well, here's my amazing story about the time I met the queen, or Lady Gaga or some over 1 and 10 million super famous person. That kind of thing. And in reality for most people, the politicise is better than the irreverent choice, in almost every situation.
