  4. As a not rich nomad capitalist and full time single parent, my flags this year are (1) keep living nomadically to keep costs down while building income streams, (2) avoid Quarantines, lockdowns, etc. That's all I want really.

  5. I remember being taught that America is the greatest country on Earth in the history of the world and everywhere else is bad and dangerous and a waste of time. Then I left the country and learned more about the world in two weeks than my first 20+ years of education. America still has plenty to offer, but the world has caught up in almost every respect and surpassed us in many. Leaving the USA is one of my favorite things to do now.

  6. My daughter is 6. She has gone to school in Barcelona, Hong Kong, Thailand, USA, Colombia, and now currently in Mexico. It's totally possible to do what you want and travel with kids!

  9. I went from earning 15-27K per year every year to making 60K this year partly as a result of my choice to live abroad. Obviously, I don't experience the same level of tax benefits you're discussing here. But even at my level, the benefits of a nomadic lifestyle pay off; the reduced cost of living, better climate, and chance to explore new cultures all help me be more productive as a person. Thanks for sharing this insight, I now have the belief that if I can double my income in this manner, surely I can double it and double it again! Cheers for the morning inspiration!

  10. 1) "Keeping up with the joneses" Absolutely, owning a car is a miserable experience and a huge, unnecessary cost. And I also pick the less 'expensive' places to live because they have a more local feel. 2) "thinking small" I only know a few people who make six figures or more. That's why I watch your channel, so I can surround myself with people who think bigger and more globally. 3) "taxes" Even American taxes at my level ($60K in 2019) are a big reason I live outside the US.

  11. As a professional nomad with a laptop, I can promise you that anytime you see a picture of someone working on the beach with their gear, it's a lie. What nomad who relies on their computer wants sand in their keys? No one. It's fake.

  13. I've noticed that Ive been much more successful since I've started focusing on myself. I'm not a blazing extrovert so it doesn't bother me that it's a bit lonely. I like working on myself and challenging myself everyday. And yes, I learned this mindset form Robert, as well, through his book Rich Dad, Poor Dad. It's crazy how precisely the opening chapter nailed how I was raised. I've changed my life by choosing my own success and now I get to travel the world as a single dad with my lovely daughter 😁😁

  14. I hope people realize they don't need to have a giant amount of money to have a FU fund. It depends just as much on your outgo as it does on how much you've piled up. If you can keep your cost of living low by living better worldwide instead of in your home country, it's possible to build a FU fund even on modest wages. As a simple, 5-figure entrepreneur who's relatively new to this, I'm not hurting during the economic downturn because I have my FU fund. And tbh, it's not that much money, but it's enough to survive for a few years without income because I manage my budget through living the nomad life.

  15. This is why everyone thinks you have to be filthy rich to travel lol. I grew up bagging beets on a farm, delivering pizzas, and flipping hamburgers. It is interesting to hear how you've moved from desiring to stay in certain places to understanding it's not a good fit. Self awareness is key to long term travel, way to set the bar high!

While I would also recommend learning the local language (I'm fluent in Spanish and spend most of my time between Barcelona and Latin America), here are three good ways to get by with only English: 1) Google translate app...have it at the ready, people are fine communicating with you via your gadgets 2) Uber...it's available in many countries around the world and you don't have to hail a cab or navigate local transport 3) Be shameless...if your communication skills in the local language are minimal, there are times when you'll have to pantomime, use props, and make silly sounds to get your point across. Be comfortable 'making a fool' of yourself and you'll suffer less anxiety in situations where there is a profound language barrier.

  18. I first went offshore when I had less than $2,000 in the bank. It's possible, and it's helped me build even more! It's smart to have to some money before heading offshore, but I'm proof it doesn't take a lot of money to get started.

  20. I love Nicaragua! It's greatly underrated. I found awesome secluded places as well as bustling cities with lots to do. I love surfing there and checking out their volcanoes!

  23. I can't understand why people with kids think they can't travel either. I literally live this lifestyle to SAVE money because the nomad capitalist lifestyle is LESS expensive than living in the United States. It's also better for my mental health, let's me live in better weather, and I get to meet people from all over the world. It's not that hard to adapt to a better lifestyle, and it just makes sense from a nomad capitalist perspective. The major downsides for kids, however, is the consistent finding and loss of new friends. It's tough on my kiddo, but that's why we're also looking for our first consistent base like Andrew has mentioned in his trifecta lifestyle.

  28. I've found that safety depends on one's definition. For example, I was in Colombia when the pandemic started and the quarantine there was strict and quickly implemented. It's kept the covid numbers down, but the lifestyle was untenable under the new rules. So, I left to the USA where the covid numbers are out of control, but I'm able to find a safe place to live in the countryside on a lake where my lifestyle is back to normal. So, safety is relative and related to what people are looking for in their lifestyle. You could be safe from covid by living under a dictator, or safe from depression by maintaining your lifestyle during a pandemic. The choice is one's own.

  29. Nomads also have to consider the phone they use for SIM cards. A phone bought in the US, for example, may only work in the US. Internationally unlocked phones with a spectrum of bands are great for frequent travelers. I once bought a Samsung Galaxy S7 in Hong Kong and it worked great there and in Spain, but when I got to the states, I couldn't use it with any carrier.

I literally had someone trying to denigrate me today because my thumbnails aren't up to their standard and because I have videos with just a couple hundred views on them. Does it suck to hear that stuff when I'm learning on my own and creating as I go? Sure, but guess what? That person who was criticizing me doesn't have a channel of their, doesn't make their own content, and stays within the herd where they feel safe. It's always those people who want to criticize instead of take risks of their own. We should all just stay true to ourselves, keep grinding, and the winners will eventually step forth and have no reason to address the haters and naysayers. Thanks for sharing what you went through as a child, Andrew. I remember having to get in scraps in school with douchebags who wanted to make themselves look cool because they could pick on kids smaller than they are. If you didn't get at least a few punches in back then, I'm glad you're crushing it now and hopefully those bullies see what you're doing now and cry themselves to sleep cuddling their food stamps.

  33. I live in Medellin right now, it's great! Speaking Spanish is definitely useful; I started learning when I was 24 and it's been a game-changer. I've made connections that I otherwise couldn't have made without speaking a second language. Side note on the dangers of living in places like Nicaragua, Mexico, and Colombia: 99.9999% of people are just going about their business and not going to put a gun in your face. Travel happy everyone! But also hand over your wallet without arguing if someone puts a gun in your face.

I've never made more than 61K in a year, but I have the cash reserves to keep me afloat for several years during down times. This is partly due to living simply, but the nomadic lifestyle has truly helped me save money for these times.

A few ways I've found to make friends as a nomad include: 1) Joining Facebook groups and connecting with the people in them 2) reaching out to people on IG who tag your area and interests 3) talking to people in parks, bars, attractions, and on the street 4) join a MeetUp 5) dating and friend apps 6) just do what you like to do and connect with the people doing the same!

  42. It's wild how badly our taxes are mismanaged and abused. It feels gross to pay them sometimes because it's so obvious how corrupt the system is. On the other hand, I'd rather be able to walk down a sidewalk than a mud path, so obviously some taxes are necessary if people don't want to live in squalor. If the gov't actually managed taxes properly and used them to help society, it wouldn't feel so gross to pay them. Instead, I feel like I'm paying a rapacious mafia quarterly dividends.

  44. It's not just doing business offshore, it's traveling at all. Your environment is a major factor in who you are as a person, and if you haven't traveled, then who you are is highly limited. Your pursuit of new places, languages, ideas, foods and anything else you can find in your travels will ultimately change who you are as a person. It's definitely made me more understanding and a stronger person.

  45. Cambodia isn't just good for investment, it's also a great place to start out as a nomad and open a business, work remotely, or even find a teaching job, for example. Even many low level entrepreneurs have found success there with their easy-to-attain business visas.

  49. Colombia hasn't been hit hard yet, but we're still under quarantine here in Medellín. Waiting it out, thinking about setting up a home base here for future disasters. It's inexpensive, people are remaining calm, and the friendly culture is keeping quarantine relatively joyful.

  50. I've found that, yes, every country is a lot more corrupt than you would think. However, the more you focus on yourself while traveling, the less you will concern yourself the goings-on of corrupt governments. You'll find that their actions are nearly as important to your life as you once thought they were, and you'll see that a lot their misgivings are Kabuki theater designed to remove your focus from yourself. Travel has taught me that I have the power, not some elected, self-serving donkey or elephant.
