Good argument. But scurvy rarely affected navy ships fighting or blockading other European powers as they were resupplied or returned to port every few months. Rather scurvy affected long distance exploration voyages such as the Portuguese wars to gain control of the Indian Ocean from the 1490s to the 1520s and later circumnavigations by commanders such as Magellan and Drake. Cook was probably the first long distance explorer to effectively defeat scurvy in his voyages in the 1770s. I think the last ship to have deaths from scurvy was the Belgica when it was the first ship to winter in Antarctica in circa 1899.
