  1. What would be the point of inviting a French officer to observe the British fleet? Everyone knew that the Royal Navy was the strongest in the world AND they were not far from the major base at Gibraltar. So if the British said they had three battleships, a carrier and a squillion cruisers and destroyers waiting near the port, no one would doubt them. All it would do is give the French time to get up steam in their ships. get their weapons ready and possibly allow a Vichy mole to contact the Germans and tell them that there was a heap of stationary, easily hit British ships for them to bomb or torpedo.

  2. I doubt either of them could do a convincing British accent, although the original film was made in Mexico by an Australian crew using British and Australian actors, so I guess anything is possible?

  3. Australian riverboats often used second hand engines from railway locomotives, mainly because they were much cheaper than purpose built boat engines.
