This rule of economic crisis affecting neighbours, doesn't apply to South Asia !! Because South Asia is one of the least economically integrated regions in the world. There is practically zero trade between India and Pakistan. And India-Lanka trade is much below potential. Also, Lankan economy is too small to make an impact on neighbours. Only Bangladesh has better trade with India. And even Bangladeshi migrants in India would be remitting back. So, this is not a poly-crisis. These are 3 independent crises.

It's interesting that Sri Lanka's tax-to-GDP ratio at 13%, is higher than India 's 11.7%. Yet India is doing better, because India has lower debt. 95% of Sri Lanka 's taxes goes to interest repayment. For India it is 45%.

Modi used similar words against China in the past. In 2020, during tensions in Ladakh, Modi made a veiled insult in China by saying - "this is not the age of expansionism, but the age of development". Modi knows how to convey tough messages in nice words.

While I am not at all a China fan boy, given their border antics with my country India, I don't wish bad times on the average Chinese people.

Mr Wonder GDP per capita being slightly high doesn't mean that Bangladesh has no unemployment. You are jumping as if Bangladesh has become a developed country. No. There are 30 states and union territories in India, and if they are ranked according to GDP per capita, then 15 will have more GDP per capita than Bangladesh, and 15 will have less.

@TheKazragore They did engage in 2-state solution. But Hamas wants a 1-state solution.

@huwenkai440 We don't have blind admiration for Russia. Indian economy is stronger than Russia, and more diversified. But it is the question of relationship. Russia has been very good at maintaining relationships, whereas China especially under Xi Jinping has been really really bad at maintaining relationships. And we could have easily allied with the West, which is strongest of all, but we want to remind them about their hypocrisies. If you think China has a stronger hand due to investment, then that shows nothing about diplomatic skills. It's hard power not soft power at play.

That ship came 4 times in the last 75 years and sailed because Arabs and Arafat kept rejecting the peace offers. In the first offer, Arabs got more land. They weren't happy, tried to kick out Israelis, and lost more land.

@mirajthepro4269 Before Hamas, Yasser Arafat's Fatah was doing terrorism. Remember, the Munich massacre of Israeli sportsmen, by Fatah terrorists. The hijacking of Israeli plane to Uganda by Fatah. That happened before Hamas.

@paxundpeace9970 just words? No. There was a reaction from the Chinese. At that time, China had become famous for wolf warrior diplomacy, and influencing countries to adopt their vaccine. So, world over, people were amused.

@huwenkai440 Russia is still our friend. You don't understand Hindi, so you don't know the full statement. The Hindi statement sounded more like a friendly advice to Putin. Choice of words, context and delivery are important.

@sebasstein7014 Talking about dictatorships, why did the West support a dictatorship in 1971 war? Bangladesh was the Ukraine of 1971. India was fighting a military dictatorship, and you were supporting the same. Our relations with the Soviet began then. This is just karma coming a full circle. Europe is not the centre of the world.

@huwenkai440 Overestimate Russia? Dude, our experiences are proof. There are numerous times, when US put hurdles for India, and Russia helped us. Google about it a bit, and then talk. Every Indian knows what I am talking about. Goodwill is not made in a day. And it's not about their ability to defend us. We aren't expecting that. Russia has earned some really good karma from us. We ain't gonna throw them under the bus. It's a different matter if Russia, itself is destroying itself, then we can't do anything about it.

Things just got out of hand !

Does this benefit Erdogan or his cronies.

How about forcing Chinese companies to sell their goods cheaply to the people? That would increase the purchasing power of people.
1
They should just sell the hydrogen and the carbon, in their hydrocarbons, separately.
1
Why don't you ask OPEC to increase oil production. They have been cutting supply to keep prices high and hurt world economy. Russia's discounts are a godsend for us !

It's an oliarchy, and not dictatorship. And non-democracy, may not necessarily be oppressive. They can be good too. But China is shit at diplomacy!

@thevisitor1012 Jagmeet Singh rose on back of the immigrant Sikh voters, who do their Khalistan activism. He has captured the pay-to-play system, to use a dedicated minority to overrule all other voters.

Doesn't matter.

Erdogan's inflationary policies will kill off his own poor religious voters. Sensible people will survive. When democracy fails, Nature will take over.

This has worked in India. In 1975, Indira Gandhi imposed emergency. In 1977, a coalition of parties, who had no commonality, trounced her. The alliance did not last much though. But still it's not a bad strategy. But again Indira Gandhi actually annoyed people, with her dictatorship.

By settlers, you mean the paltry 85,000 govt employees who were already living there for 15 years for job reasons. And are being accused of demographic change in a place with 7 million people.

No one supported us, when we were suffering. When India faced a refugee crisis in 1971, West was supporting Pakistan. Where was your principles and values, then ? When Pakistan sent jihadis into our country and caused killing of Hindus in Kashmir, what happened to your morals? America created Taliban, the Frankenstein monster, to fight Soviets in the Cold War. No principles there. Superpowers have no principles.
