RBI starts buying dollars, when rupee appreciates. So, it ends up selling it when dollar strengthens. RBI should allow rupee to appreciate from time to time. Then it wouldn't matter if it falls from time to time.

@ravishetti87 RBI doesn't strengthen the rupee. Time to time, rupee does become strong due to FDI, and factors like cheap oil. During pandemic, Facebook invested 2 billion dollars into Reliance. Also, oil was cheap during pandemic. So, at that time, rupee appreciated. But RBI deliberately weakened it, by buying more dollars. Donald Trump called India a currency manipulator at that time, and India was added to a list of manipulators. Go check news of that time. So, in times like these RBI starts selling the dollars to slow down depreciation.

@ravishetti87 What I am saying is, RBI should not interfere. Don't buy dollars when it appreciates and don't sell dollars when it depreciates.

@ravishetti87 I get it. But it probably doesn't work all the time.
