@KulwinderSingh-le2uw So, if govt procures other crops also at MSP, then situation will improve, and will farm laws be more acceptable? But govt increased MSP of pulses in last 2 years. Isn't that helping?

@JS-th1gi I think sabhi crops ko MSP hai, lekin procurement ki kami rahi hai. Isliye, logo ne dusre crops ugana hi chod diya hai. And other crops can be given MSP, as long as government can sell them in the market. But in case of rice, govt is not able to sell the procured quantity. I think, if govt promises procurement of all crops, then farmers should agree. Sadly, both sides are not talking. And farmers are not realising that all farmers can't get the MSP in practice because market supply and demand forces will not allow. Actually, making MSP as law, will kill off small agri companies and it will actually help Adani/Ambani only. Only big companies and big farmers will benefit from MSP becoming law. Small farmers depend on small companies, both cannot match the production of big farmers and the price offerred by big companies.

@KulwinderSingh-le2uw you are being too pessimistic. The laws are not causing corporatisation of agriculture. Contracts are not corporatisation. Contract makes sure, relevant crops are grown in amount that is possible to sell. Read the laws properly. They are just adding more avenues to sell the produce. How is that corporatisation? You think private means only Adani and Ambani. Private is much bigger than that. There are many new age tech based companies that now dominate. Eg: bigbasket. And it is actually ITC which dominates corporate agriculture not Adani or Ambani. And ITC is big success for last 15 years,giving guarantee to the wheat farmers of MP. Ashirwad atta is grown in MP. You are looking from only Punjab point of view. World is bigger. You need to realise that Punjab doesn't feed India anymore unlike 1960s. All states have green revolution now. Just because govt is procuring it doesn't mean people are actually buying it and using it. Moreover, people are health conscious and reducing carbs in diet. So, demand for rice/wheat is always reducing. You can't be blind to these changes and simply blame neo-liberalism and corporates. And Punjab is having high debt because of this deliberate procurement, and this hurting your water table and your industry. First thing to do is change the crops to pulses and oilseeds, because they will get sold easily in open market at good prices.
