Comments by "Raju" (@rajx7120) on "CM Kejriwal: Subsidy on electricity only to those who opt for it from October 1" video.
When Modi asked people to give up LPG subsidy, many BJP supporters gave up, including me. Let's see how many AAP supporters give up. Not a single one will do so. And LPG subsidy was based on direct benefit transfer. Will AAP implement same thing? Then this opt-out mechanism can be implemented. Otherwise, who will pay afterwards, when you already got for free? All diversions.

But how many AAP supporters will give up? Many BJP supporters like me, indeed give up the LPG subsidy. The problem is that he made it completely free for first 300 units. Progressive slabs were a much better way, because that ensured accountability. This 300 limit, is inflexible. And LPG subsidy is based on direct account transfer. The cost is not subsidized. Will AAP implement Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism? Then opt-out will be possible.

Not sure about Singapore. Sri Lanka situation seems more likely.

The fundamental problem is wastage of electricity by farmers. And price controls on electricity rates. It should be linked with the market. And govt should give negative tax to poorer sections, to help them pay. That would ensure accountability. And farmers' income needs to be taxed above a limit, so that rich farmers don't get away paying no tax. There is leakage at various levels.
