Bangladesh doesn't need huge infrastructure like India. Also, it doesn't need to spend on defence. And it has got a port, which simplifies logistics. India has logistics problem, to connect hinterland with ports. That is why Gati Shakti plan will help. But our opposition run state governments don't like infrastructure spending.

I think we should compare individual states of India with Bangladesh. That would be more helpful, in understanding the problem. And we should focus on laggard states. If Bangladesh were a state of India, then they would be at rank 16 out of 32. West Bengal, Rajasthan, Assam, UP have less GDP per capita than Bangladesh. Whereas, Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu, Himachal and Uttarakhand are ahead. Punjab was at equal, but now Bangladesh would have surged ahead. At the same time, Assam this year would be growing at 9%.

We should look at individual states. West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Rajasthan are behind Bangladesh. Now Punjab also would be lagging. Assam is growing under Himanta Biswa, and UP is seeing infra development. But I am not hopeful of Rajasthan and West Bengal. Rajasthan is spending 68% of its revenue on Old Pension scheme of state govt employees, which are only 6%. West Bengal has anti-business minded people, political violence and their MP makes jokes like "soil of India" is too weak to support bullet trains. Finally, Punjab is going down the drain, with paddy-wheat trap, and de-industrialization.

India's exchange rate is declining because of money printed for welfare schemes. The printed money causes high inflation, and automatically causes value of rupee to drop. We need to fix our subsidies. We should remove subsidies that distort market, and instead give subsidy only for healthcare and education.

@Lucifer-hb5vq Why should states not be criticized? BJP ruled states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa are doing better than non-BJP states. UP Bihar are are seeing higher GDP growth rate than Bangladesh. Whereas, Punjab has huge debt, with low GDP growth. Kerala has an low GDP growth, high local unemployment, and dependent on foreign remittance only. Can you even start a business in Kerala and West Bengal? By blaming everything on Modi, you want to avoid accountability of state governments. So, can I ask same question to you - What is your problem, man? Modi is the devil for you, and is everyone a saint?

@abseiduk The states that were growing at 14-17% are too poor, with a very low base. Like Bihar. So, it doesn't add to GDP per capita immediately. But consistency is the key. Bangladesh has been growing at 7-8% consistently for a decades. UP is just building the infra for growth, in last 5 years. It will pickup.

No. The Gini coefficient of BD has not been calculated since 2016. At that time, it was 32. For India, it was 35. Lower is better. BD was slightly better. It would not have changed much in 6 years. As this figure changes slowly.

I think once our infrastructure gets developed and local manufacturing improves. We would also grow. We should make sure, all luxury products which rich and upper middle class people buy, should be made in India. That would ensure circulation of money within the country, instead of going out through imports.

This anti-business mentality is what is keeping the country poor. It is the businessman who creates jobs. When you demonize Adani Ambani, you actually hurt the small entrepreneurs with anti-business policies.

Bangladeshi migrants don't cause any trouble in India. As long as they do their job and go back, there is no problem. What we can do is give temporary work visa to Bangladeshis, to monitor them. Just like US does.
