  1. Was it necessary to annex, for that reason? They could have simply had diplomatic relations, to use that port. The fact is that Crimea and Donbass region have coal and oil. Russia wants to control the world's oil and gas. That's why they interfered in Syria, to prevent a gas pipeline from Middle East to Europe, because that would reduce Europe's dependence on Russian gas. Russia has been planning this all the while, specifically to hurt Europe.

  2. Russia was sanctioned only after they annexed Crimea. And still Germany was buying gas through Russian pipelines. And honestly, if you base your growth on West importing from you, then you should not complain, if they stop buying from you. West is not beholden to trade with Russia, if Russia acts in a rogue manner.
