@matte67 Education, Healthcare etc are not welfare. They are actually investment, because they improve the productivity. Free electricity, bus and water are freebies, as they only reduce expenditure. And such freebies should be given as direct cash transfers, than forcing distributors to subsidize and shoulder the costs. The costs should be on govt's balance sheets. Even in electricity, incentive for solar panels is investment not freebie, as it helps people generate their own electricity, rather than someone else paying their bills.

Revdi also can be done in transparent way. Instead of subsidy, they should provide direct cash transfers. Otherwise, the discoms go bankrupt. It's like govt hiding its own debt on discom'a balance sheets.

Sometimes, I wonder, why do we need so much politics? All we need is fix, hypocrisies and inconsistencies of the past. Like following:- a) encourage crop diversification, rationalize subsidies and have more market linkages in agriculture. b) encourage more enterpreneurship, especially in manufacturing. In fact, SC/ST and OBC should be encouraged. There is already Stand Up India program to help SC/ST owned businesses. c) Fo creamy layer exclusion. But for this unreserved castes, need to unite. d) Build more cities. Encourage distribution of jobs across tier-2 cities, connected through highways and internet. e) Decouple capitals and economic centres in each state. That's all we need. Govt's and politicians, should not have too much power.
