@pardeeptandon And why are HNI leaving? Because their money is taxed without any returns, only to pamper freebies on farmers that keep growing excess rice, using subsidized electricity. When your tax money is wasted on unproductive, wasteful endeavours, and you just keep paying with no end in sight, then it is best to leave.

@joshwanker That's your propaganda. 86% of the farmers interviewed by the Supreme Court panel supported farm laws. Maharashtra Shetkari Sanghatana was a big supporter, but they were too far from Delhi, unlike Punjab. And big corporations would actually be more helpful to farmers, because they have deeper pockets to pay farmers a good price, unlike small corporations. And in any case, wr now have ONDC and OCEN, to help out the small players. The current system benefits the mandi mafia, whi exploit small farmers and deny procurement and access to buyers.

@pardeeptandon The GDP growth under MMS, was in rupees. If you check in dollars, it's more or less same, with Modi govt. But inflation was touching 10% under Modi govt, even during normal times, when there was no war in the world. Under Modi govt, average inflation never crossed 5% before the pandemic. Only after pandemic and war, it touched 7.7% max. UPA actually had a crony capitalism problem which led to ao many NPAs. Raghuram Rajan, himself said all the NPAs originated in 2006-2008 period. Modi govt has cleaned up the NPAs, and invested in infrastructure and logistics. And this is why, we are now, poised for an increase in private sector investment, which has been rising for the last 2 years.

Before that, industries need land and electricity. The subsidizing of agriculture has made land costly, and cheaper electricity to farmers, come at the expense of costlier electricity to industry, also called cross-subsidization. All these subsidy policies have ensured that Punjab is good for only farming, and nothing else can happen. What's the point of vocational training, if you can't get jobs? ThePrint did an episode in how engg and ITI students were disillusioned by their diploma, as they are no companies to work in. And why the companies are not there? Because excessive pampering of rice farmers is hurting other sectors of economy. You don't want to talk about these root causes, and instead give diversionary excuses.

But Punjabi farmers will also, not diversify away from rice and wheat, and keep taking govt's tax money, that whole country is paying. Govt's annual MSP bill is about 80% of the amount of central petrol tax collections. They will keep depleting groundwater, and overuse pesticides, and suffer cancer, and then ask more and more money from Centre.

This is about Punjab, not Punjabis. Punjabis are doing fine outside Punjab -when you talk about presence in various areas. But Punjab state in itself, is declining.

@pardeeptandon Delhi is a rich statw with high GST collections. So, they can do freebies easily. Also, Delhi doesn't have to spend on police because that's taken care of by Centre. Comparison with Centre, is false equivalence because Centre has to take care of larger number of poor people across the country, and engage them in infrastructure building. The debt has surely increased, but the money is not wasted on freebies. It's spent in asset creation, and enabling better logistics for businesses to imorove profits and thereby taxes.

@pardeeptandon Those foodgrains were temporary for pandemic hit poor people. Should we allow poor people to die or what? Free electricity to farmer to overproduce rice is not freebie. It is extortion. Rice and wheat, even UP Bihar farmers are growing, but procurement bias is in Punjab. That's fucking extortion.

@pardeeptandon Stop misleading. 6000₹ to farmers, has very low budget burden compared to the MSP budget. And those 6000₹ benefits wider section of farmers whereas MSP is cornered by few big farmers of Punjab. Every big farmer gets 1.5 lakh per procurement, and we haven't even counted cost of free electricity and fertilisers. It's a fucking loot by Punjab.

Where is neo-liberalism? If it were, then, there would not have been such excess rice production, supported by tax-funded MSP. There would not be ao many middleman at the mandis dictating prices to small farmers and doing favouritism to big farmers. The opposition to farm laws was all, to protect the feudal monopoly, that prevails in Punjab.

@KaranSingh-wu8qq If you were unhappy with grievances being limited to magistrate, then you could have asked for an amendment to include high courts, or even special farmer's courts. 10 rounds of consultation happened with govt. What was the need of removing entire set of laws? I am inclined to believe, that there were vested interests on the ground. And don't blame everything on Adani, as if there are no other companies in India. There are many startups in the agricultural procurement space, that would have connected farmers with city consumers. The fact is, you are used to living on govt's tax money, and want to retain your feudal hold in the rural areas. So, you mislead everyone.

No. Punjab would not have benefited. Punjab farmers are vested beneficiaries, of the currently broken system, where they get guaranteed tax money and subsidy, for overproducing rice and wheat. Small farmers in rest of India, would have benefited much more. Eg- tomato and onion farmers in Central India and UP/Bihar. These selfish Punjab farmers wanted to preserve their hold on Indian agricultural sales, at the cost of others, and even their own future.
