  1. People should distinguish the idea of jaati from varna. Jaati is the community that a person belongs to. Varna is the historical status in the pre-modern feudal society of India. Very much like class label. The varna status has become irrelevant in modern era. There are no provileges ubder any law for any varna. On the contrary, people who had a lower varna status, are given reservations to move up. Religion and religious practices are independent of jaati. And varna is irrelevant.
