  1. State govts are raising petrol VAT, to fund freebies, to poor, while Senior citizens don't get the same freebies. That's why your pension doesn't feel enough.

  2. Fall in rupee is because US Fed announced that, it won't cut interest rates. US Federal Reserve had a meeting on Dec 20th. Rupee fell after that. Whole world's money is moving towards dollar, and that's called dollar strengthening.

  3. First define middle class. It was the urban poor who sufferred 10% inflation during UPA. They are not sufferring anymore. It is the urban well-off who are just 3%, that's suffering, but they don't have voice. The rural middle class got mandir. Rural poor is employed on infrastructure jobs. So, only people ideologically opposed to BJP are crying. A lot of critics are from Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Perhaps, they should protest against state petrol taxes and higher cost of electricity, because they are not poor enough to get freebies. Apart from that, a few Punjabis who don't have guts to speak against their farm lobby or part of it. In rest of the country, they have seen better days under BJP.

  4. BJP actually reduced taxes over last 10 years. And headline inflation was always below 5%. This is because they did more capex and infra spending than wasting money on leaky MNREGA. It is lack of reforms in agriculture that is causing food inflation, and also freebies of state givts, for which they raise petrol taxes.
