  1. No. There is actually a law under which farmers can be arrested for growing GM crops. There are cases where farmers were literally accused of growing poison, and arrested. And you are probably talking about patent rights of GM seeds. Without IP protection, there would be no private investment into research on GM crops. This doesn't come for free. Imagine running a research company and not being able to make any profit. Or the govt should do the research itself, and donate for free. But govt always fail in doing so.

  2.  @clapog  How come Brazilian and Argentinian farmers don't need "long-term safeguarding" from the GM crops? What's so special that they are doing well, and only our farmers will suffer? Don't spread misinformation!

  3.  @clapog  Brazil 's economy started going down due to the leftist Dilma Rouseff govt, messing up the finances from 2013 onwards, by not controlling fiscal deficit, by splurging on freebies and borrowing too much. It's nothing to do with agriculture or GM crops.
