Comments by "Raju" (@rajx7120) on "Why Modi govt miserably failed in communicating impact of much-needed farm laws : Ashok Gulati" video.
1991 reforms was not through stealth, but due to desperation. Destruction was staring at us, and there was no choice but to agree.

Give procurement rights to individual states. Let every state procure local produce. Then they will worry about the tragedy of the commons. If Punjab farmers don't learn, it will become a dry state, then these farmers will learn the hard way out.

Ask your state government to not buy any Punjab rice, and prioritize local rice. Show some spine

@Achintyanath Right, but farmers don't understand. So, they should learn the hard way out.

@achuthankuttymenon4996 Actually, even PVNR was a socialist. World Bank had put condition that, without reforms, they will not get anymore loans. That's the truth.

Get your facts right. NPAs are due to UPA's reckless loan-giving. No loan has been waived. They were written off and transferred to a bad bank which will recover value. With corporates, it doesn't work in the same manner as farmers. And lower corporate tax is to match India's rates with the low rates of ASEAN countries, to attract companies moving out of China after pandemic. That's the only way to create jobs.

@neerajsunil3448 There won't be shortage of food. Because rice and wheat can be grown in UP, Bihar and Bengal. Actually, it should not be grown in Punjab at all, and whatever they grow is simply wastage.

@Achintyanath Start a state PSU, that procures local rice, and distribute locally. Refuse Central PDS, and ask money instead.

Government can't do everything. Corporates are profit-oriented, but they help others by creating growth. Don't be soo suspicious of corporates. Because of them only we are growing after 1991. There are so many agri-startups that are coming up, and they were expected to take advantage of these laws. they would have connected millions of small farmers with buyers, and provided acces to finance. At the end of the day, agriculture is business, like any other.

ThePrint actually had intervewed Prof Gulati first, and always supported farm laws. But leftist media like NDTV, HW News, and regional anti-BJP channels like LallanTop were spreading misinformation.

@Avinashm7 First educate yourself about history of reforms. Modi has been the only PM focusing on infrastructure and reforms at such a pace. The slowdown we are seeing is temporary, and consolidation of reforms. We are already seeing a recovery. 9.5% this year and 7-7.5% from next year. This is IMF projection. If agri reforms had gone through then it would have been higher because 1.5 lakh crore of money locked in useless rice can be used somewhere else like healthcare. Your hatred of Modi is blinding you.

@Avinashm7 Finance Minister is a MPhil in Economics. Much better than Pranab Mukherjee, who passed retrospective taxation. And data is actually more credible than during UPA, because we are having increased formal economy. In the name of vague informal economy, inefficient policies were implemented in the past, with high leakage.
1
How do you think 1.5 lakh crore got stuck in grain stocks? Because they were mandatorily procures at MSP, above market price. And because of guaranteed MSP, farmers grow more of the same foodgrains. So, it's a vicious cycle where foodgrain stocks keep increasing, just because we have to pacify farmers. It is better to give money to farmer, without asking them to grow anything.

These excess stock can't be sold, because there is no demand to eat that much rice and wheat. We are growing things that can't be sold, so the money is locked. Also, excess production causes a drop in prices due to simple demand and supply rules. You are watching Mr. Gulati for the first time, it seems as you were more interested in the opposition side of the story.

In case of first world countries, environmental damage happened when technology was backward. But in India, bad policy is causing environmental damage, because of excess rice growing.
