But why, bad management?
227
@drased so management aren't coders or programmes themselves?
76
@MB-ul5me that sounds horrible wtf, so much money and this is what's happening behind the scenes?
40
So abandoning your in-house game engines with unreal 5 would be bad right?
32
@FelixDaleth I see , thanks this was resourceful
14
Here's the thing, do projects with people you know and can trust and COMMUNICATE!!!
10
@raics101 that whole situation sounds very unstable and poorly planned , they should make it a requirement at this point to have management actually know wtf the devs are doing and moderate work flow. If all you are gonna hire is young inexperience people then the board or investors should have the common sense to hire a few experienced programmers as managers and give them the salary they are worth.
9
Secular society be like:
8
@raics101 well I believe that game devs should have no business asking why their managers have higher pay then them, it's gonna happen regardless and the manager himself needs to have enough knowledge to know what's being padded and what's an actual issue. Sure others would be superior to him but at least it isn't some suit that you can't even explain a simple hiccup too and would be the same thing as talking to a wall. That's how store managers work as well, the boss is usually the most experienced and only needs employees to do stuff under his guidance, well at least a successful store
7
Then why hire young coders, call them apprentices and hired actual experienced professionals
6
@LethalShadow oh wow I didn't even think that, no wonder companies hire young people so much. All cause they don't pay their programmers what they are worth, that is hella pathetic
6
God i will miss kojima and Nintendo legends, not everyone lives forever but I wish some people could 😢
5
@marcogenovesi8570 yeah I get that, I'm saying just one or two people need to be good at both and be employed as such. And these managers would have their own apprentices should they decide to leave later
4
@alanmacdonald1457 I feel like these "goons" are people who couldn't get big corporate software jobs like engineers but due to their lack of skills choose the gaming industry
3
@JRS902 damn so same thing happening with fox engine and red engine, kinda sad. All that money made from gaming and their own tool is not updated properly
3
@exazebra what do you mean plan ahead, as in modifying the engine to suit needs kinda like how rockstar has upgraded their rage engine over time?
3
@lowridr2 so what you're saying is that they hire some devs like that to make it PC as in "something for everyone" . Seems like they need to establish a separate department who work both in social media and average casual people to analyse what exactly the preferences are
3
Well how new, 2008 new or post 2015?
2
@JunkyCube yep sounds like fresh out of university to me, lacking total discipline and skills
2
@afcansf5996 well 2015 was the last year where freakish gaming started to happen after and weird pro women stuff was appearing all over gaming like i would give a flying fuk what girls think or act like
2
@Dan-codes that's what I'm saying, it's time for a change cause the devs are getting younger and less disciplined. You need a proper head whose only job is to do what he singlehandedly can not
2
@migrant_x oh yes lol that's true, weird how that works. If you actually stop straining and let it "compute" the new "memories" it just received , it's easier to come up with solutions and improve your previous work flow.
2
I think that's normal , you need reminders and motivation
1
@Fireballun other people have said pay, basically they hire young people, a lot of young people cause actual professionals make more money in actual software companies. There are older underskilled people but mostly young cause publisher just wanna refuse giving good pay but would gladly avoid taxes
1
You know what the solution is, create smaller games. As in ps2 type games with unique perspectives especially third person, make a shit ton of them like hi fi rush they made, it's literally a ps2 jap game
1
Did you try asking management, like tell them what they are doing will actually produce bad products?
1
Free mobile games aren't even predatory , triple a games in comparison are disgusting
1
@andrebenoit404 the reason why all this started was adoption of mobile games, but since mobile games got a bad rep for this, since then they throw endless amount of content at you and you only spend money for something really specific like with bleach brave souls
1
Here's how it actually works, publishers hire young under paid staff and older unskilled people who couldn't get software jobs anywhere. That's it, experienced programmers don't work in the gaming industry cause they get better income elsewhere and publisher does what it usually does of skipping taxes and continuing to under pay and over work the fools who work for them
1
Was that fix for pc only or all versions, last and new gen consoles?
1
@raics101 i see, that's how it was with konami and kojima and result speaks for themselves, good talk
1
@madudeek7083 that's sad, maybe idk companies could have quizzes and stuff to see if the devs they are hiring at their pay grade actually worth it
1
@BunnySock333 well to be fair, all this could be avoided if they paid experienced and senior devs what they are work like most software engineering companies do, but since hire cheap labour and then try to capitalize on that for so long that you get problems like these.
1
@Shadic4101 true that, i really hate their crap "look" and writing, seems like a redditor most of the time.
1
@H0kieJoe lol that's so messed up for a billion dollar company
1
@rickypaynetube so in the end the company is to blame for thinking logistically instead of living in the present, hence why you get stuff like elder scrolls online at launch
1
@JellyfishLive you should report them then, in gaming they can't afford bad Managers
1
@marcogenovesi8570 well here's the thing, the prime example of that as in mgs 4 had an exact 50/50 ratio to game play and cutscenes. The rest however have both plentiful gameplay content and story content none of which is filler
1
What you mean?
1
@migrant_x I see, not that I would understand considering I'm not a programmer
1
Why not put it in the contract, why hire idiots?
