unreal honestly has always been a very bloated piece of crap with horrid gameplay, i remember just how unique mgs 5 was with it's fox engine and that fact that it doesn't even use taa as it's pipe lines and is one of the most optimized gaming titles to ever exist goes to show just proficient publishers can be if they actually invest in their own engines.

even cdpr and yakuza team abandoned their amazing in house engine for unreal, the dragon engine was fire and the red engine used in cyberpunks shits on anything made on unreal 5 games which usually have crap animations and horrid blacks.

hmmm good point

@nazaxprime it's really not, idk what kind of of dev this OP is (probably an employee for epic) but it will take you 3 times more money and resources for a unreal 5 engine to make a one to one copy of a bethesda title, we don't live in a vacuum and the more time wasted on just one game means higher the chances that fatigue and dev hell hold the actual project back

what a horrible take on the general dev cycle , of course others are gonna assume the world runs on pure inconvenience especially with how complicated games have gotten

@Steamroller-ot2gm not using shit taa doesn't count too

anything cpu related in unreal is crap, always has been and i swear every unreal game feels like stuff is moving through water

unreal games never have good gameplay, they are always stiff and feel like they are moving through water

it's not the dev taking the easy route but publishers not investing in their own in house engines for the style and gameplay they are actually aiming for, do you have any idea what hell it would be to make a one to one fallout 4 copy on unreal 5 , all engines are optimized for a specific coding route and just saying "oh anyone can make rdr 2 on insert random engine if they weren't lazy" shows just how much you are taking things for granted
1
@Granhier they are different , no idea what the hell are you on about, pretty much all unreal 4 games look like and so does unity, it's extremely hard to animate high polygon models now and spending money just to create something from the ground up from dev perspective is defo not worth it , especially when the average dumb consumer just knows good looking game just means good game , same as game with open world is better value game.

now it's all about graphics and their immersion, their as in how good they look instead of playing. heck unreal used taa heavily and has ghosting by default as it's base pipe line cause it's meant to look pretty

yeah this is why fox engine shouldn't have been dropped by konami, different engines are tuned differently so devs can go for a specific style of gameplay and look , at a much quicker and performance friendly way then others, if you are a publisher invest in your engine,so horrible that cdpr dropped their amazing engine used in cyberpunk 2077 which btw absolutely shits on unreal 5 in deep blacks, animations, lighting and art style.
