My god man Russia cant even take the Donbas, get a grip.

@Tailor series They took Mariupol in the initial shock of the invasion and Bakhmut a mid sized town they took after 10 months and 100k casualties. Neither one are major cities. They retreated from Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Izium and Kherson. (Izium was the main logistics hub in the area and by some accounts the Ukrainians captured more equipment there then they started the war with) Typically when you invade a country you don't want to get bogged down in trench warfare that never ends a few miles across the border. They aren't able to 'chase them away' because it is still the Russian army, despite shocking incompetence and corruption it will take a while to defeat them.

@linkmeforfun It's Iran fighting for Russia. The Russians wanted to surrender but the Ayatollah said he'd fight Ukraine until the last Russian.

Putin begging Iran and NK for whatever scraps he can get. "please give me weapons so I can take a mid sized town a few miles across the border in under a year." Putin then hunched over his map of 17th century Russia with tears in his eyes.

@davewatson5817 Like I said above Russia cant even take the Donbas, WW3 is an insane fantasy. If it was NATO vs Russia it would look like Desert Storm + Geography. It wouldnt take long. And that was before Ukraine destroyed half of their army. Ukraine's army was large at the start of the war (about 700k including TDF) It wasn't particularily well trained. They are much better trained now and larger (just over 1 million) They also have more equipment now then when they started the war. They've captured over 500 tanks from the Russians, which is around what they've lost breaking even. They've got over 1000 tanks from the west though. along with thousands of ACV's and Armored cars. Russia has no help aside from Iranian scraps, every day that goes by Ukraine gets stronger and Russia gets weaker.

@Tailor series No The Ukrainians weren't mobilized, 90% of their forces were off doing who knows what. The Ukrainians were following NATO doctrine of not positioning their troops right on the border with Russia, the Ukrainians did that in 2014 it didn't end well for them all that does is make your forces a target. The Russian's just destroy your dug in forces with a surprise barrage with their massive artillery advantage. NATO doctrine against the Russians is to stay back (about the distance a Tank can travel on a full tank of gas.) Don't give Russia's massive armored force anything to shoot at then pick their supply lines apart with hidden infantry. Russian Forces were waaay larger then Ukraine they couldn't afford a head on fight until they'd worn the Russian down, which they've done quite well in the past year. Nobody really expected the Ukrainians to do this well, not the west, not Ukraine and least of all not Russia. At first we were mostly supplying them with equipment to fight a guerilla campaign as we thought Russia would roll over the Ukrainians fairly quick. That didn't happen though and the Ukrainians are now getting the heavy equipment they need to fight a proper war. Meanwhile Russia is dusting off the T54s and Scooby Doo vans, I don't imagine it wll be a very good year for Russia.

@Tailor series I never said Mariupol Melitopol weren't important, just small. And Ukraine recaptured Kherson. Do you know how invasions work? When the Germans invaded Russia they drove the Russians almost back to Moscow before lines stabilized and the Russians were able to get organized. Ukraine wasn't even mobalized or in position at the start of the war of course russia is going to take a large amount of territory. However since the lines have stabalized Ukraine has taken far more land then its lost.
