  2. Marginal gains. As of the end of December 2024, Russia occupied 18.14% (+0.07%) of Ukraine, which is about what it occupied 2.5 years ago. Including Crimea and the areas of Donetsk most of which were occupied in 2014 and the opening days of the 2022 invasion. Since then Russia has occupied next to nothing.
