@JuanPassiveMenis Japan is rich. China has managed to do what no country has done before, grow old before getting rich. Nobody really knows what's going to happen, there is no model for it but it probably wont be good.

@JuanPassiveMenis Birth rates naturally decline as a product of urbanization (there are other factors also like availability of birth control). China's birthrate would have fallen normally like everywhere else but 1 child has resulted in catastrophic decline. Every country will eventually end up like that, however in North America it is greatly slowed due to immigration.

California definitely has problems but they are at least rich. Per capita GDP is $85,969 in Cali. Its $12, 556 in China. And that's the CCP reported number, they tend to lie about their GDP. Taking household income into account houses prices in China are far less affordable then California.
