@jaimelannister141 Maidan started when Yanukovich was voted out by 100% of parliament, including his own party. The protests started when he refused to give up power, then he fled the country. Maidan is often claimed by Russian apologists to be a coup but it would be the only successful coup in human history that ended with the same government it started with. The chances of Ukraine joining NATO was effectively zero, less than 10% of Ukrainians wanted to join prior to 2014 and multiple NATO countries were opposed to the idea. Russia invaded in spite of Ukrainian neutrality. Want to know another country that considered joining NATO? Russia, should they invade themselves? The primary reason Russia invaded was Ukraine discovered large gas deposits and threated Russia's energy monopoly in Europe.

@fablewalls The funniest is when they destroyed a bunch of farm equipment and the Russian MoD tried to pass them off as Leopards. They also claimed they'd destroyed Leopards, Bradley's and Abrams months before they arrived in Ukraine. Its a clown show.

@lairdduncan5209 Oh, the laughable 'we're not even trying' nonsense. Haven't heard that garbage since last year. Russia has destroyed multiple cities, the spent last winter trying to destroy the Ukrainian power grid to kill as many civilians as possible, so much restraint. They've done everything short of using nukes to win the war, and they cant use them or their few remaining allies will cut them off. The reason this war continues is primarily Ukrainian resolve and Russian incompetence. Or do you really think that WW1 style attrition warfare that never ends was the plan all along?

@vaninec Any 'growth' in Russia is because they raised the VAT tax on Russians and imports, all that revenue gets spent on the war though, not something that generates wealth. Russia has food lines since the first time since the 90's. Hydrocarbon revenue is down 70% since the start of the war. The interest rate is set to a punishing 15% to try to stop inflation, and the Ruble is in the toilet. But sure their economy is booming, just ask them.

Russia was supposed to remove its forces from the Donbas and withdraw its support for the LPR/DPR and return control to Ukraine under the supervision of the OSCE. Russia did none of these, they violated Minsk on day one. Of course there would be no Minsk agreements if Russia hadn't violated the Budapest memorandum.

@MaximPerepelitsa51 Russia is in violation of the Minsk Agreements. The deals require a ceasefire, withdrawal of foreign military forces, disbanding of illegal armed groups, and returning control of the Ukrainian side of the international border with Russia to Ukraine, all of this under OSCE supervision. Russia has done none of this. It has regular military officers as well as intelligence operatives and unmarked “little green men” woven into the military forces in Eastern Ukraine. The LPR and DPR forces are by any definition “illegal armed groups,” that have not been disbanded. The ceasefire has barely been respected by the Russian side for more than a few days at a time. Russian-led forces prevent the OSCE from accomplishing its mission in Donbas as spelled out in the Minsk Agreements. It is an unstated irony in Vienna — understood by every single diplomatic mission and member of the international staff — that Russia approves the mandate of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine when it votes in Vienna, but then blocks implementation of that same mission on the ground in Ukraine. Because Russia is a member of the OSCE, and the SMM wanted to preserve what little access it has to the occupied territories, the mission is guarded in what it says about ceasefire violations and restrictions on its freedom of movement. Privately, however, they acknowledge that some 80% of such violations and restrictions come from the Russian-controlled side of the border, and those that occur on the Ukrainian side are largely for safety reasons (e.g., avoiding mined approaches to bridges.)

There would be no armed rebellion in the Donbas if Russia hadn't invaded. There were Russian 'little green men' with Russian heavy equipment backed up by Wager. @yogeshsinghthakur1996 Are they going to live in Roshel Senators? 90% of the aid is spent in the countries of origin and creates jobs. Its basically direct stimulus. Ukraine had almost no help when they drove Russia out of Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy. Russia has been getting help from Belarus, Iran, North Korea, India, China. And they still cant even take the Donbas despite it being a few hours drive from Moscow.
