@brownmold Prior to 2014 less than 10% of Ukrainians wanted to join NATO, and most NATO countries were opposed to them joining. Russia attacked in spite of Ukrainian neutrality, this is a regular old land grab. Russia was never serious about peace talks, they want Ukraine to surrender, thats Russia's idea of peace talks.

Moreover none of that changes what I said, prior to 2014 less than 10% of Ukrainians wanted to join NATO and many of the countries in NATO were opposed. It takes unanimity among NATO members to bring in new states, and Ukraine itself was taking no steps towards joining NATO. There was also a time when Putin wanted to join NATO, but in his words; "When are you going to invite us to join NATO?’ And [Robertson] said: ‘Well, we don’t invite people to join Nato, they apply to join Nato.’ And he said: ‘Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter." He told Frost it was hard for him to visualise NATO as an enemy. “Russia is part of the European culture. And I cannot imagine my own country in isolation from Europe and what we often call the civilized world.”

@Gerrard_Pike2008 Yeah dozens of times Manu, I'm guessing you just want modern history though. The Ukrainian War of Independence, the Polish–Soviet War, the 1917–1920 Russian Civil War — Southern Front, 1918–1923 Russian Civil War — Eastern Front. Do you also include genocides? because there's the Holodomor and the Crimean Tartar genocide. Furthermore the Maidan rebellion is Ukraine's business, only in Russia's and your deranged fantasy world does that give them casus belli to attack. Putin also has a long history of attacking his neighbors, Transnistria, Chechnya, Dagestan, Georgia, Ukraine twice. And Russia has an even longer history of annexing neighboring countries. That's too long to list in a youtube comment though.

@MetallicReg Wrong again, Ukraine still has lots of forces in reserve. Russia broke through the frontline north of Avdiika and Ukraine filled the gaps and have even forced Russia back in recent days. I'm sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about. WW1 was a war of attrition and no grand breakthrough happened.

@MetallicReg You can look on a map where forces are stationed, nothing in modern war is secret. I'm not sure where you get your harebrained ideas from but they have no basis in reality. Rotation troops is a euphemism for reserves, do you think maybe they'll be redeployed if Russia looks like they are about to achieve some mythical breakthrough? Or do you think they'll sit there, slack mouthed until the country collapses? Its time to rejoin reality.

@brownmold Sure if by steps you mean absent mindedly mulling it over, Ukraine was taking the same steps as Russia. Russia has stated multiple times it doesn't care about Ukraine joining the EU. (This is a lie, but it's what they say)

@brownmold Well it wasn't working because until Russia invaded in 2014 less than 10% of Ukrainians actually wanted to join NATO. Wow a comment on it 15 years ago, truly the smoking gun. Is NATO in the room with you right now?
