Moscow declined to deny that the president had spoken of taking Kiev in a phone conversation on Friday with José Manuel Barroso, the outgoing president of the European commission.

@tandennis5817 The US took Afghanistan in a couple weeks and then occupied them for twenty years, the Taliban spent twenty years hiding in caves waiting for them to leave. I think the problem is you don't understand the difference between invading and occupying.

@ariver There hadn't been an attack on coalition forces in years. The US lost 1,921 soldiers over twenty years due to hostile action. Russia will lose more than that over the weekend.
