@rogerwilco5918 Finland is Russia's neighbor and has long been on the receiving end of their aggression, including being occupied for over a century. I'm not sure what part of this would be difficult to understand.

@KazimierzSurma Medvedev already announced the reason buddy, Ukraine discovered large mineral and hydrocarbon deposits and Russia wanted to maintain its European monopoly.

@karhutitan Furthermore even ignoring the fact that Ukraine had zero chance of joining the alliance for multiple reasons, Russia signed the NATO-Russia founding act, which stated each alliance could expand however they pleased. Even Putin at one point said, “I am absolutely convinced that Ukraine will not shy away from the processes of expanding interaction with NATO and the Western allies as a whole. Ukraine has its own relations with NATO; there is the Ukraine-NATO Council. At the end of the day the decision on Ukraine joining NATO is to be made by NATO and Ukraine. It is a matter for those two partners.”

@karhutitan No, modern Finland only gained its independence just over a hundred years ago, Finland existed long before that. This is basic history.
