Support for reunification with Romania has been trending upwards for years, and is now almost 50% in Moldova and over 50% in Romania. I wonder if this recent 'cry for help' will shift the needle any and how long until there is the political and societal will for it.

@revolter7094 Russia was supposed to leave the Donbas, stop supporting rebels and return the occupied territory to Ukraine. they did none of these. Ukraine had passed all the legislation required by Minsk, they were prevented to implement it because Russia still occupied their territory. Of course there would be no need for Minsk if Russia hadn't violated the budapest memorandum.

@pogo1140 Unless those airports are equipped with teleporters all air traffic would still need to fly over Moldovan or Ukrainian air space.
7
@dhanyrafael I'm no expert but according to wiki only 4.6% of Moldova are Russians. Even in Transnistria only 29% are Russian.
6
@pogo1140 Moldova has MiG-29s, they may or may not be functional. Either way Russia has to fly over either Ukraine or NATO member Romania to get to Moldova.
5
@40 No they still have their MIGS. They tried to auction them off and in 2022 Ukraine offered to buy them but Moldova refused. Even if they don't it still wouldn't explain how Russia would get over Ukrainian or NATO territory. There isn't anywhere in Moldova that Ukrainian AA won't reach.

@DarrelX-im2hb The same government was in charge after Maidan as before, nobody was overthrown. Yanukovich was voted out by 100% of parliament, including his own party. Rather than hold an election he tried to retain power and the predictble protests started. Then he fled to his masters in Russia.
3
@Heterosexual51 Nobody left Russia because of a 'coup' the left because the Soviet Union collapsed. There was also no coup in Ukraine. Yanukovich was voted out by parliament, including his own party. Ukraine would be the only successful coup in human history that ended with the same government it started with.
3
@DarrelX-im2hb The EU isn't a country. Even Yanukovich tried to sign the association agreement with the European Union. Then Russia sanctioned and embargoed Ukraine, violating the Budapest memorandum and Yanukovich changed his mind leading to parliament votin him out and protests.
3
@Изольда-з5м He was voted out by all of parliament, including his own party. If you don't know why by now maybe you aren't smart enough to be participating in this conversation.
3
@DarrelX-im2hb More imaginary nonsense, look up what the word 'sovereignty' means, which the Budapest memorandum that Russia signed says they must uphold. Lets see what Putin himself had to say about Ukraine joining the EU as recently as june 2022, even he doesn't share your insane view. "We have nothing against it. It is not a military bloc. It's the right of any country to join economic unions,"
3
@pogo1140 Thats exactly what I said, they had a few MIG29s that may or may not work. Which is completely irrelevant because there is still no way for Russia to get to Moldova by air.
2
@DarrelX-im2hb Of course there never would have been a vote and Yanukovich would have signed the EU Association Agreement if Russia hadn't violated the Budapest memorandum by sanctioning and embargoing Ukraine.
2
@DarrelX-im2hb Article 3 is about the signatories influencing Ukraine economically, it doesn't apply to Ukraine itself genius. They are able to do whatever they want economically and join any economic union.
2
@DarrelX-im2hb Once again because you seem to have trouble understanding basic concepts. There is literally nothing in the Budapest memorandum that says Ukraine must remain neutral, either economically or militarily. The Budapest memorandum is for Russia, the US and the UK , Ukraine has no obligations according to the memorandum. Do you understand?
2
@DarrelX-im2hb You already said that. Spamming the same silly argument over and over wont convince anyone. I'll say this one more time, hopefully it sticks. Ukraine has no obligations in the Budapest memorandum. It is literally impossible for them to violate it, they can join any organization and do anything they want. There is nothing in the memorandum that prevents them from doing anything, it doesn't apply to them. Ukraine could enter into an economic union with Russia, the US, the UK, China and Mars and it wouldn't violate the Budapest memorandum. I'm not sure how I can make that any more clear. Even if Russia thought the Memorandum was being violated the next course of action is clearly stated in the fourth article. "Seek immediate Security Council action to provide assistance to the signatory." not 'embargo and invade' They didn't though they brought nothing to the UN because even they didn't think it had been violated. Its only a violation in your imagination, you are the only person that thinks they violated anything. I hope you find a therapist and get the help you need.
2
@dhanyrafael Thats not true. Even in Transnistria its only. · 29.1% Russians · 28.6% Romanians/"Moldovans" · 22.9% Ukrainians · 2.4% Bulgarians · 1.1% Gagauz · 0.5% Belarusians · 0.2% "Transnistrians" · 1.4% others . All of Moldova looks like. Moldovans 75.1%, Romanians 7.0%, Ukrainians 6.6%, Gagauz 4.6%, Russians 4.1%, Bulgarians 1.9%

@elbibwen3019 The coup conspiracy, you need to look up what a coup actually is. The only successful 'coup' in human history that ended with the same government it started with. What actually happened was Yanukovych was voted out by 100% of parliament, including his own party. Then when he tried to hang onto power the predictable protests started. Rather than call an election he decided to flee to his puppet masters in Russia.
1
@AsterWA google the Holodomor when millions of eastern Ukrainians were starved and millions of Russians moved in to replace them.
1
@Изольда-з5м Is there a point to this whataboutism? Hundreds of years ago everyone was annexing everyone else, including Russia, the main difference is the US stopped annexing countries over a century ago while Russia still continues. Do you think comparing something that happened hundreds of years ago to something happening now is smart?
1
@DarrelX-im2hb Arbuzov fled because he was wanted in the theft of ₴120 million. If he is innocent he should return to Ukraine to face judgement.
1
@DarrelX-im2hb Yazenuk resigned as Pm. he didn't flee and still resides in Ukraine. What on earth are you talking about?
1
@X-im2hb Yanukovich wasn't removed, he abandoned his office and resigned. Do you understand? Moreover according to the terms of an EU-brokered peace deal finalized on February 21, Yanukovych was due to sign a measure returning Ukraine to its 2004 constitution. (In 2010, Yanukovych restored the country's 1996 constitution, which hands greater power to the presidency.) Yanukovych, however, failed to sign the measure. The omission left Kyiv in a kind of legal limbo. The 1996 and the 2004 constitutions are uniform when it comes to the reasons for removing a president, with Article 111 stating the parliament has the right to initiate a procedure of impeachment "if he commits treason or other crime."
1
@DarrelX-im2hb That's not how it works bud. Literally only you interpret it this way this way. Ukraine's sovereignty is guaranteed in the Budapest memorandum, including joining any economic or military alliance. Russia had a bilateral free trade agreement with Ukraine prior to 2013. In your small mind this was somehow a violation of the Budapest memorandum. There isn't a single lawyer that specializes in international law that would think either is true. This is literally one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard in my life. I'm not sure why you are bringing up Poland other than to change the subject, they aren't signatories of the memorandum and are completely irrelevant.
1
@Darrelx-im2hb Ukraine could join an economic union with anyone they want and it wouldn't violate the Budapest memorandum. Because its literally impossible for them to violate it. this is about the fifth time I've said that and you still don't understand. Ukraine could appoint a horse as president and join the galactic federation, they could enter into a sub/dom relationship with Russia and it wouldn't violate the Budapest memorandum. Ukraine could dig a moat around the entire country fill it with hot dogs they got from the US on the cheap because they entered into an exclusive trade union with them and it wouldn't violate the Budapest memorandum. Ukraine could decide its tired of life on Earth and relocate to the moon and enter into a military alliance with China and Pakistan and the aliens that live inside the moon and it wouldn't violate the Budapest memorandum. There is nothing Ukraine can do to violate the Budapest memorandum, its not possible for Ukraine to violate it. Are you being deliberately obtuse, or is this just how you are?
1
@DarrelX-im2hb Now if Ukraine was somehow forced against their will to join the EU it would be a violation of their sovereignty and be a violation of the Budapest memorandum. If Ukraine joined the EU and the UK (if they were still in the EU) somehow forced Ukraine to do their bidding on threat of economic sanctions that would be a violation of the Budapest memorandum. If Poland tried to do the same it wouldn't be a violation of the Budapest memorandum because Poland never signed the Budapest memorandum. If Ukraine joined CSTO that wouldn't be a violation of the budapest memorandum, unless they were forced to do so. If the US sanctioned them for joining CSTO that would be a violation of the Budapest memorandum. Just like how it was a violation of the Budapest memorandum for Russia to embargo and sanction Ukraine for trying to join the association agreement with the European Union, that would be a violation of the Budapest memorandum.

@DarrelX-im2hb Lie? You are hilarious bud, don't throw a tantrum now. I never said there wasn't a coup attempt. There was an attempted coup in August 1991 by hardliners but it failed, it had nothing to do with Ukraine and the other members of the SSR leaving though they didn't leave because of the coup, they left because they could. Ukraine voted for independence on December 1st 1991 and less than a month later the USSR was gone forever (fun fact Kazakhstan was the last member of the USSR). By then the collapse was already a foregone conclusion in part because of Sinatra doctrine which allowed the Warsaw pact to 'have it their way' and the rest of the union quickly dissolved.
