  2. Russia was supposed to remove its support for the rebels, withdraw is forces from Ukraine and return control of occupied territory to Ukraine under the supervision of the OSCE. Russia violated Minsk on day one. Of course there would be no Minsk agreements if Russia hadn't previously violated the Budapest memorandum.

  5. History didn't start two years ago, Russia has been massively outspending Ukraine on it military for decades, plus their massive stockpiles of Soviet gear. Also the ISW report didn't say Russia was fighting using shovels they said certain units were sent in with only rifles and shovels, mostly to highlight the lack of support weapons like AT in some areas. This is clear if you spend more then five seconds looking into it instead of just spamming silly talking points.

A country the size of Ukraine can absorb millions of losses before they start having real manpower shortages, what they have is a training bottleneck. Russia had to kill around 20% of the population of the much smaller Chechnya before they won there, and that was only because Kadyrov turned coat. Russia is using penal battalions and mercenaries from Nepal, Syria and other developing countries, they are having their own recruitment issues. Moreover they are using T54's, BTR50's and Chinese golf carts, their stockpile of Soviet equipment is large but it isn't infinite.

  11.  @zjpdarkblaze  Attrition warfare favors Russia as long as they don't make idiotic decisions, like attacking headlong into prepared position for no good reason. Attrition warfare favored Russia in WW1, what happened instead was the entire country collapsed.

  12.  @zjpdarkblaze  Ukraine is fighting for its survival, Russia is fighting to gain some more land. Russia can absorb more losses but with different motivations there is no guarantee that they will, Russia has already had one attempted coup so far this war. They could have absorbed far more losses in WW1 but instead the country fell apart. Meanwhile in WW2, a war where they were fighting for survival they were willing to take staggering losses. The Soviets were also dependent on western donations and they still won. Russia has a long history of losing offensive wars they should win. The Russian-Japan war, Polish-Soviet war, Afghanistan, the first Chechen war. They could have taken far more losses in these wars if they were willing to, but they didn't. Also stop pretending you know how many losses Ukraine has, neither of us know. The best we can tell is a guess based on equipment and infer casualties based on that, which photographic evidence indicates is around 3-1 in favor of Ukraine, and that was before Russia's recent ill advised offensive. There is no indication that any collapse is imminent for either side and it is likely this war will last for years or even decades longer.

  13.  @zjpdarkblaze  Modern Russia is far weaker than any of its previous iterations. Most of them they eventually win? They eventually won WW1? The Polish war and the Japanese war? The only one that this could be claimed would be in Chechnya, and that was two seperate wars.

  16.  @attilamarics3374  The ISW never said anyone was fighting with just shovels. They said some units had been equipped with only rifles and shovels, which was true. You can go read the report if you want, its not top secret.
