Because Russia wanted more land. It's not working out very well for them though.

@enriquelaroche5370 So you're telling me that Ukraine has lost some jets? in a war? Unbelievable, and yet MiG-29's and Su-27's are still being operated by the Ukrainians. When Ukraine gets F16's they will probably lose some that doesn't mean they won't be effective, in large part due to the shambolic incompetence demonstrated by the Russian air force.

@stephenglover8828 Russia also can't get air superiority despite having every advantage, which again is mostly due to their astonishing incompetence. Russia can't even perform basic SEAD never mind the large scale air operations that would be required to get air superiority in Ukraine. sad to say but there isn't any magical weapon. Russia seriously should seek a peace deal.

josephstolen-election5949 This old canard? Prior to Russias invasion n 2014 less then 10% of Ukrainians wanted to join NATO its only Russia's behavior that has drove Ukraine to want to join NATO. Same with the Fins and Swedes, if not for Russia's bad habbit of trying to annex its neighbors they wouldn't have joined NATO either, thank Russia for expanding NATO.
