@Chipolinou Huh? The US occupied Afghanistan in a few weeks then occupied them for 20 years. The Taliban spent all that time hiding in caves. There hadn't been an attack on coalition forces in years, I'm not sure who you think they were running from. Russia was defeated so soundly in Afghanistan their whole country collapsed.

@ЮлияЛ-щ9ш Russia has completely destroyed multiple cities with no regard for human life. Last winter they tried to destroy the Ukrainian electrical grid to freeze to death as many Ukrainians as possible. And they are doing the same this year. Come back to reality 'user'.

@Chipolinou The USSR collapsed for a number of reasons, Afghanistan was the final nail in the coffin. I'm not sure why you would ask a question thats so easy to google. Do you know how the internet works? Battle of Arghandab, Operation Arrow, Battle of Jaji, Siege of Khost, Battle of Maravar Pass. There are many others, please do some basic research before posting foolsh questions.

@Chipolinou Read some of the other ones genius. Or you can look at the Panjshir offensives or the Battle of Maravar Pass. Among others, do you really think the Soviets didn't lose any battles in Afghanistan? Go ask a grown up for help if you are still confused.

I said Afghanistan was the final nail in the coffin. The USSR collapsed for various reasons. Russian incompetence, corruption, the inherant flaws in communism, massive expenditures like Chernobyl and Afghanistan. I already explained this, but I know reading comprehension isn't your strong suit.

You can shift the goalposts all you like but it wont change reality. I know you aren't good at reading, but try to read the whole article. You talk about the Mujahedeen hiding but in the end it was the Soviets who ran away. Are the ones who ran away the ones who won the battle? you'd know this if you bothered to read the article. In 1986, Mikhail Gorbachev announced his intention of withdrawing the Soviet contingent from Afghanistan. From then on the Soviets were mostly concerned with avoiding losses in the Panjshir sector, and they observed a tacit ceasefire: unprovoked shooting by Soviet troops was forbidden, and the mujahideen refrained from attacking Soviet bases. Despite provocations ordered by Najibullah's government to draw the Soviets into further fighting, the situation generally remained calm, enabling Massoud to carry out his "strategic offensive", capturing much of Baghlan and Takhar provinces. The last Soviet and Afghan troops present in the lower Panjshir were finally evacuated in June 1988. Dry your eyes.

I'm sure you'll have some excuses and imaginary reasons why it doesn't count either. Let me guess the sun was in their eyes so it doesn't count.

I know reading comprehension isn't your strong suit but try to read it before you spam the same brainless comment again. So when On 6 March 1996, a group of Chechen fighters infiltrated Grozny and launched a three-day surprise raid on the city, taking most of it and capturing caches of weapons and ammunition. During the battle, much of the Russian troops were wiped out, with most of them surrendering or routing. After a couple columns of Russian reinforcements were destroyed on the roads leading to the city, Russian troops eventually gave up on trying to reach the trapped soldiers in the city. This wasn't a loss in your tiny brain for some reason? Or when On April 16, a month after the initial conflict, Chechen fighters successfully carried out an ambush near Shatoy, wiping out an entire Russian armored column resulting in losses up to 220 soldiers killed in action. In another attack near Vedeno, at least 28 Russian soldiers were killed in action. This was a victory for the Russian army in your mind? Or the Third Battle of Grozny where Russian troops in and around Grozny were overran in the key districts within hours in Operation Zero). The fighters then laid siege to the Russian posts and bases and the government compound in the city centre, while a number of Chechens deemed to be Russian collaborators were rounded up, detained and, in some cases, executed. At the same time, Russian troops in the cities of Argun and Gudermes were also surrounded in their garrisons. Several attempts by the armored columns to rescue the units trapped in Grozny were repelled with heavy Russian casualties (the 276th Motorized Regiment of 900 men suffered 50% casualties in a two-day attempt to reach the city centre). Russian military officials said that more than 200 soldiers had been killed and nearly 800 wounded in five days of fighting, and that an unknown number were missing; Chechens put the number of Russian dead at close to 1,000. Thousands of troops were either taken prisoner or surrounded and largely disarmed, their heavy weapons and ammunition commandeered by Chechen fighters. Another Russia victory if you have a tenuous grasp on reality.
