The average American lives far above their means their entire lives, we are a consumer driven society Saving and investing takes a little sacrifice a little discipline and reading a few simple books to learn basic investing concepts. Most of my friends made close or at 6 figures and now at 60 have almost no savings. They will all probably work until they are 70. I made the same income and retired at 57 And at 60 actually have more money in my portfolio than when I retired. I simply chose to live a simpler life, save something every month, invested it and never ever touched it
