  1. Vast majority of Americans live notably above their means during their working careers, then pay for it dearly in retirement. Most Americans have only themselves to blame. I started washing dishes at Pizza Hut part time and on weekends at 15 , my parents had to drive me, first thing my father taught me was saving 20% after I graduated college he taught me about starting and fully funding an IRA, and then with my career, maxing out my 401k as soon as it was an available option. I retired at 58. It just takes a little sacrifice, discipline and patience and reading a couple of simple books on asset allocation.
