Inspiring as always. Some ideas - based around the premise of no power restrictions. The atmosphere has the right basic components for survival and fractional distillation is one method of separating the 3 basic gases that comprise air. Unlike bio-isolation experiments, we would be in charge of the mixture of gases for human and plant comfort. Aquaponics has potential - fish poo provides for the PPK needs of the plants, but plants do not close the loop. Mars is going to be reliant on supply missions for decades. at least. In terms of plant needs - Mars can supply the perfect light conditions, heat and gas mixture for optimal growth, as long as power is free. Sodium, LED and halides could provide all the light needs for the plants, as well as heat, but the nutrients would have to come from Earth. Most likely bio-tech as well, which is another matter. In dehydrated form these nutrients could be very cost efficient. Aeroponics negates the need for soil - it's only a substrate with a variable properties after all. Roots love the misty environment of aeroponics, the plants grow beyond expectation, and can produce a bumper fruiting stage. It's doable.
